School Development Surveys

The Department of Education’s 2023-24 School Development Surveys are now available online and will be open for submissions until Friday, March 15th.  We encourage all families to please complete this survey as the data will be used to identify strengths and challenges and to create goals for the school.

Grade 9 Field Trip to White Hills-- CANCELLED


As per NLSchools Student Travel Policy, the field trip to White Hills Ski Resort that was scheduled for Thursday, February 22 has been cancelled due to a weather warning that has been issued by the District’s contracted weather service.


Refunds will be issued to students and families in the coming weeks. 

Celtic Pink Shirt Orders

On Wednesday, February 28, Brother Rice will be recognizing Canada’s National Pink Shirt/Anti-Bullying Day.

Semester 2 will begin on January 29th. This would be a good time to replenish school supplies.  Pencils and erasers are especially important!

Family-Teacher Conferences

Family-Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, December 7 from 12-3:30pm and 4:30-6:00pm.  Families will have the option of attending in-person at the school or virtually through video conference.

Appointments can be booked online through Optis. You will be able to book appointments once Progress Reports have been released on December 1.  For more information on using the Optis system, please see the instructions below:

Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol

Our students have the opportunity to attend a student matinee performance of A Christmas Carol at Holy Heart Theatre on November 24, 2023. Students will be leaving the school at 9:00 am to walk to Holy Heart and should arrive back at the school by 11:30am. The cost for this event is $10.00.  

Payment for this event is due in advance as we need to purchase tickets for the show. To confirm your child's spot, please complete the permission form and fee payment through Rycor by Wednesday, November 15th. To access Rycor, simply log in to your PowerSchool Parent Account and click the "Forms and Fees" tab.

A reminder to families that we are now using NLESD's new Rycor system for any school-related fees and forms. Several important forms have been posted for completion (Emergency Dismissal info; Media Consent; Technology Agreement). For student athletes, the Athletic Contract and any applicable sport fees have also been posted. 


To access the Rycor system, simply login to your PowerSchool Parent account and click on the "Fees and Forms" tab. More information can be found by visiting https://www.nlesd.ca/studentsfamilies/rycor.jsp.


Changes to Bus Routes 2 and 4***

Effective Monday, September 25th, there will be changes to Bus Routes 2 and 4.  Due to overcrowding, the following stops have been removed from Bus Route 17-129-2:

Cashin Avenue & Campbell Avenue

Blackmarsh Road & Bennett Avenue


Beginning on Monday morning, these stops will be added to Bus 17-129-4.  As a result, there are changes to pick up and drop off times for both route 17-129-2 and route 17-129-4. Please CLICK HERE to view updated pick up and drop off times for these routes.

Year End Message

As we end the school year, we would like to thank our students, families, coaches, volunteers, and all school staff for their successes and positive contributions throughout the school year!

New Rapid Testing Information

On March 30th, Public Health released updated testing instructions for the use of rapid self-tests. Attached is the updated guidance as well as a memo from the CMOH explaining the changes.

Family-Teacher Conferences

Progress Reports were sent home today, Friday, March 18th. Family-Teacher Conferences will occur virtually (by telephone or video conference) on Thursday, March 24th and can be booked online using the OPTIS system.  

You can begin scheduling interviews today at 3pm and the system will remain open until Wednesday, March 23rd at noon. Families can book up to three interviews per student.  If you do not yet have an OPTIS account, you are able to set one up beginning today. CLICK HERE TO ACCESS OPTIS

Pick Up of Rapid Test Kits

We will begin dispersing Rapid Test Kits tomorrow (Wednesday, January 19th). Details on pick up times were emailed home today. You can also view these details by clicking the link to our School Memos (located towards the top of this page).

Families are asked to hold their rapid test kits in a secure location until receiving the official go-ahead to begin the testing process. This notification will come in the form of a public advisory from the Provincial Government and an email from the school.  


Online Learning Update

Please note that, based on the January 13th media briefing, online learning will continue into next week, January 17-21.  We are currently developing a plan for the distribution of rapid tests to families. Information about this plan will be communicated next week.
